Sand Sculptures at Fulong Beach
Are you ready for some surf, sand, and fun in the sun?
This year's Fulong Sand Sculpture Festival is on now!
This festival started in 2008.
It's held on Fulong Beach, in Gongliao District of New Taipei.
Fulong is a golden sandy beach that is 3 kilometers long.
And it showcases (展示) amazing sand sculptures (沙雕).
Why Fulong?
It's all about the sand.
The sand is made of quartz (石英).
It is soft, fine, and smooth.
It sticks together very well when it is wet.
This makes it perfect for sand sculpting.
In fact, this sand has been certified (認證) by the World Sand Sculpting
Association.
So Fulong is one of the best places in Taiwan for sand sculptures.
The festival is now in its 18th year.
And this year, the theme is "Disney Summer Magic"!
This means you can visit the beach and see amazing sculptures of your
favorite Disney friends.
今年的福隆國際沙雕藝術季將設計出45座迪士尼主題的沙雕。
The festival runs until September 30th.
More than 15 artists from around the world are making sand sculptures this
year.
They helped build 44 different sculptures.
And 40 of them are all about Disney.
Aside from enjoying the sand sculptures, there's lots more to do.
The beach is great for swimming, surfing, and sailing.
It's also where the Shuangxi River runs into the Pacific Ocean.
Lots of special plants and animals live there.
And there's a visitor's center close by.
The center has lots of information about nature and culture in the area.
Sounds like summer at Fulong Beach will be full of sun, sand sculptures, and
smiles!

Pokemon "Fossil" Museum in Chicago
Trainers and dino-fans!
Are you ready for fossils, fun, and lots of Pokemon?
A special show is opening at a museum in Chicago.
It's called the Pokemon Fossil Museum.
This show started in Japan.
And now it's headed to the Field Museum in Chicago.
Yup, it's Pokemon and real dinosaurs together in one place.
Visitors will meet "Professor Fossil" from the Pokemon world, and his helper
"Excavator Pikachu".
They will teaches kids and grown-ups about fossils.
These are the bones and prints (腳印,印痕) left behind by ancient animals
like dinosaurs.
Visitors will see Pokemon models (模型).
And they will also see fossils of real dinosaurs.
In fact, the Field Museum is the perfect place for this.
It's home to SUE the T.rex.
SUE is the most complete (完整) T.rex fossil ever found.
SUE is named after the explorer Sue Hendrickson, who found the bones.
The T.rex skeleton was found in South Dakota, in the US.
A group of scientists had found some other dinosaur bones and were leaving
the area.
But their truck had a flat tire (輪胎漏氣).
Sue walked around while other people changed the tire.
And she found the T.rex bones nearby!
The scientists dug up the bones.
They were very excited.
Usually when scientists find T.rex skeletons, more than 50 percent of the
bones are missing.
But SUE was 90 percent complete by bulk (體積)!
Seeing SUE would already be amazing.
But on top of seeing dinosaur bones, museum visitors can also learn about how
Pokemon are like some real-life animals.
這場特別展覽將史前寶可夢和現實世界的對應生物進行比較,讓遊客更了解古生物學。
And visitors can also meet real scientists who study ancient creatures at the
museum.
The museum hopes the show is interesting for people.
They hope it helps people learn more about life.
And they hope it helps children become interested in science and paleontology
(古生物學).
