Mikan Makes Bank for Kaohsiung MRT

Cats...

What do cats do?

They sleep.

They clean their fur.

They play with string.

And they run MRT stations?!

This cat does.

Mikan is in charge of Ciaotou Sugar Refinery Station in Kaohsiung.

He's the station master!

This fluffy orange kitty helps run the station.

Well...sort of.

Mostly, he looks cute and does cat stuff...

And he's really good at it!

Mikan wasn't always famous.

He was a stray cat (流浪貓), living on the streets.

That was until the kind people at the station adopted him.

They gave him the name "Mikan" (蜜柑).

It means "mandarin orange" in Japanese.

That's because he is bright orange.

And when he curls up to nap, he looks just like the little round fruit!

A few months after being adopted, Mikan got a BIG promotion.

He became station master!

And now he is really famous.

He even has his own uniform and hat.

People love him so much that they buy many Mikan-themed goodies, like bags,
notebooks, and even plushies

All this Mikan stuff could help the Kaohsiung MRT make over $10 million NT
this year!

But don't worry, Mikan doesn't work too hard.

He only works one day a month, meeting with his fans.

The rest of the time, he relaxes in a cozy office.

He has his own special work space, with views of the city.

And the orange cat is spreading his cuteness to other countries.

Mikan merchandise will soon be on sale in Japan too.

Mikan is more than just a cute cat.

He's also helping to spread kindness to stray animals everywhere!

Magic Mist: Catching Water from Thin Air

Water is super important!

We drink it, cook with it, and use it to grow food.

But did you know that some places in the world don't have easy access to
clean water?

In some cities, people don't have water pipes in their homes.

Some have to wait for trucks to bring it to them.

Others have to travel far to get it.

But what if we could catch water… from the air?

Sounds like magic, right?

Well, in Chile, scientists have a way to do just that...using fog!

In a city called Alto Hospicio, in Chile, it hardly ever rains.

People there need clean water, but many don't have pipes to bring it to their
homes.

Instead, big trucks bring them water.

But scientists have a new idea… what if they could get water from fog
instead?

Alto

Imagine a big net, like the ones you use to catch butterflies.

But instead of butterflies, this net catches tiny water droplets from the
fog!

When the fog passes through the net, the water sticks to it and drips down
into pipes and tanks.

Just like magic, we get fresh water from the air!

This idea isn't brand new.

People have been doing small fog-catching projects in different parts of the
world, like in Morocco, near the Sahara Desert.

But now, scientists in Chile want to do this on a bigger scale!

They figured out where the foggiest places are.

They believe big fog-catching nets could give water to thousands of people!

This water could even help grow veggies without soil!

Scientists say they could grow 15 to 20 kilos of fresh greens every month
using fog water.

Imagine growing your salad straight from the air!

With more and more people needing water, scientists say we must find new ways
to collect it.

That's why fog harvesting could be a game-changer!
