Taiwan's Scientists Take a Peek at a Black Hole
Black holes (黑洞) are one of the biggest mysteries in space.
They are so powerful that nothing-not even light-can escape from them.
Scientists believe black holes form when very big stars collapse
But what happens inside a black hole?
No one knows for sure!
Even though we cannot see black holes directly, scientists use special
telescopes (天文望遠鏡) to study them.
By looking at how black holes affect nearby stars and space, they can learn
more about these strange objects.
And Taiwanese scientists played a big role in a major discovery about a black
hole!
They helped the Event Horizon Telescope team study a supermassive black hole
in the Messier 87 galaxy.
In 2017, they joined the team in looking at this black hole.
In 2019, their work helped create the first-ever picture of a black hole.
Using data from 2017 and 2018, the team has new ideas about how black holes
change over time.
A scientist from National Taiwan Normal University says the research shows
why the black hole looks different in each image.
By studying this, scientists can understand more about black holes and their
Taiwanese scientists have also helped build and operate (建造和運行) over
half of the telescopes used in this research.
These telescopes are in places like Hawaii, Greenland, and Chile.
Others are in Mexico, Spain, Arizona, and even the South Pole!
With their hard work, Taiwan's scientists are helping the world unlock the
secrets of space.
Maybe one day, they'll even help us figure out what's inside a black hole!

Lost and Found: An Ancient Egyptian King's Tomb
More than a century ago (一百多年前), archaeologists (考古 學家) made a huge
discovery in Egypt.
They found the tomb (陵墓) of King Tutankhamun, also known as King Tut
His tomb was full of golden treasures, jewelry, and even his mummy (木乃伊).
It was one of the greatest finds in history.
Since then, scientists have searched for other missing tombs.
But there haven't been any big discoveries...until now!
Archaeologists have discovered the long-lost tomb of King Thutmose II
This is the first royal tomb found in over 103 years!
King Thutmose II ruled Egypt about 3,500 years ago.
His mummy was found in 1881, but no one knew where his original tomb was.
A team of British and Egyptian archaeologists spent two years digging near
Luxor (盧克索).
At first, they thought the tomb belonged to a queen.
But this year, they found clues (線索) that showed it belonged to Thutmose II.
Inside the tomb, they found colorful tile pieces (彩色瓷片) with blue and
yellow designs.
Some had pictures and writings from an important ancient Egyptian book about
the afterlife.
Historians say Thutmose II died before he was 30.
He was not as famous as other pharaohs, like his father, son, or even his
powerful wife, Hatshepsut (哈特謝普蘇特女法老).
Scientists believe the tomb was damaged by flooding long ago, and many of its
treasures were moved.
Even so, this discovery helps us learn more about Egypt's past.
And maybe even more surprises are waiting to be found!
