Hi there! Welcome back to a whole new episode of News Bites!

I'm Nancy Sun.

And I'm Kelly Kimura.

In today's news:

Young Taiwan athletes take home the gold, and this Hong Kong contest is
strictly for the birds.

And in today's News Flash, there might be a "round two" for a popular movie.

Stay tuned for more on those stories, coming up next.

Taiwan Team Clinches Top Spot in Little League World Series

Taiwan hits it out of the park!

A team of young athletes from Taipei's Dong Yuan Elementary School did
something amazing.

They won the Little League Baseball World Series championship!

The Little League Baseball World Series is held every summer in the US city
of Williamsport.

Half of the teams come from the United States...

And the other half comes from around the world.

It was a long road to the top spot.

The Dong Yuan team beat teams from Mexico, the Caribbean and Venezuela. That
made them champions of the international teams.

Then, they faced off against the US champions, Nevada.

It was a very intense (激烈) game.

The Taiwan team did a great job with defense (防守).

In the end, they won the game 7-0!

The last time Taiwan won the championship was 29 years ago.

Teams from Taiwan have now won the championship 18 times.

That's the most for any country besides the U.S.

Last year, Taiwan's team came from Guishan Elementary School in Taoyuan.

They also did very well, finishing second.

Head Coach Lai Min-nan said "we finally made it".

He says there is a saying in Taiwan...that "it takes 10 years to sharpen a
sword".

Hong Kong's First Bird Call Championship

"Cuckoo, cuckoo, cuckoo"...

"Caw, caw..."

"Hoo, hoo, hoo..."

Are we learning some weird new vocabulary?

Nope, we're practicing for a new contest (比賽)!

Last month, there was a fun contest in Hong Kong.

The contest was held by the Hong Kong Bird Watching Society.

Contestants (參賽者) dress up like birds.

Then they get onstage...

And they try to make bird sounds.

The person who sounds most like a bird, wins!

Almost 100 people came to try.

There were many different bird sounds.

Some tried the call of the Asian barred owlet.

Others tried to sound like the Chestnut-winged cockatoo.

In the end, a man named Bob Chan did the best job.

He sounded just like a Eurasian tree sparrow.

Those birds are often seen in the city.

Bob says he saw everyone "giving their all".

And judges are very happy that so many people came.

They say it's important for people to think about the birds they share the
city with.

When we start caring, we can help protect them.

Experts say more than 580 kinds of birds have been seen in Hong Kong.

They say Hong Kong is small...

But it's an important stop for migrating birds (候鳥).

That's why protecting places for birds is so important.

And the Hong Kong Bird Watching Society is worried about this.

The government is planning to develop (發展) some land in Hong Kong's north.

It wants to build homes, offices, and more.

But some people are worried.

They think this would mean less nature, and less places for animals to live.

The society says protecting nature is important for protecting biodiversity.

NEWS FLASH

And in today's News Flash,

There might be a "sequel" (續集) for the super popular movie "KPop Demon
Hunters".

A sequel is a book, movie, or TV show that continues the story of an earlier
one.

It's the next part of the story, where you see what happens to the characters
next.

Many people have watched the show about the Kpop girl band that protects
humans from demons. And reports say moviemakers are talking about making a
sequel.

And now you know!
